Abstract:From the perspective of the Embodied Language of Cognition, the relationship between meaning and linguistic expression is a three dimensional relation of “body (sensory-motor system)-brain (experiential knowledge network)-expression (language expression system)”. The present study theoretically discusses the “body-brain-expression” language model. Taking obtaining event and its constructions as examples, this study describes the content of the experiential knowledge network by constructing “Cognitive Event Frame”, and explains the construal mechanism of constructions under dynamic body-expression interconnectivity. Besides, this study builds a corpus of English obtaining constructions, and verifies effectiveness of the “body-brain-expression” model in explaining the cognitive operations and the usage distributions of language system through the quantitative analysis of the constructions. At last, the “body-brain-expression” model and the “Cognitive Event Frame” model are compared, enlightening studies on meaning-expression relation and those on Embodied Cognition linguistics.
