Abstract:Conceptual metaphors feature prominently in political discourse. Their translation is of vital importance to the establishment of a country’s national discourse and image. Based on corpus approach, combined with the Critical Metaphor Analysis proposed by Charteris-Black and Metaphor Identification Procedure by Pragglegaz Group, the paper identifies and counts the metaphorical patterns in the Chinese-English parallel corpus of nineteen speeches selected from Xi Jinping: The Governance of China Ⅲ, studies the most common conceptual metaphor according to the frequency of metaphorical patterns, and finally summarizes three metaphor translation strategies, in the hope of providing insights into the study and practice of metaphor translation in political discourse.
