Clarifying the teaching objectives and integrating moral values into courses is a key issue for developing postgraduate English textbooks in the new era. Cultivation of patriotism, research and team spirit, academic integrity and international communication awareness should be incorporated into the teaching objectives of postgraduate English courses and into the implicit design of textbooks. The development of A Comprehensive Course of English for Master and Doctoral Students suggests that postgraduate English textbooks can: 1) cultivate patriotism and global mindset through select research papers that are oriented to recent advances home and abroad; 2) nourish explorative and cooperative spirit through designing exploratory tasks; 3) enhance academic integrity through learning the norms of academic writing; 4)improve international communication awareness and competence through productive written and spoken tasks that simulate actual international academic exchanges.
