Abstract:Disciplinary diversity and convergent development trends of artificial intelligence is significant for understanding the characteristics of digitalization and automation development, discovering the laws of interdisciplinary integration and guiding the broader applications in digital industrial fields. This paper chooses the evaluation index system proposed by Loet Leydesdorff et al. to measure the trend of disciplinary convergence in artificial intelligence technology, and further analyze its convergence with biomedicine. The results show that cross-disciplinary integration between artificial intelligence technology and other disciplines in the Web of Science database has been expanding rapidly over the past decade, and among the 254 subject categories in the WOS, 106 subject categories have integration with artificial intelligence, of which nearly one-third are related to biomedicine. Further analysis of expert interviews indicates that the convergent development of artificial intelligence and biomedicine has promoted the such area development as data analysis and prediction, drug discovery and personalized medicine, medical image analysis, genomics and proteomics research, and health management and prevention. Moreover, China's institutions conducting interdisciplinary research on artificial intelligence and biomedicine are at the forefront in terms of scale.
