Lifelong learning ability is a core element in helping engineering students adapt to the personal and career development in the new era, and it is the point in promoting and deepening the reform of "new engineering education". This article interprets the connotation of lifelong learning ability in the context of new engineering education from knowledge integration, systematic ability, and value creation. In order to promote high-quality development of new engineering education in the future, the focus should be on cultivating the lifelong learning ability of engineering students, which is not only related to the future development of engineers in the social dimension of their professional identity, but also involves the value demands of their individual lifelong growth. Therefore, universities should actively construct sustainable engineering courses, engage in service-oriented engineering practices, and establish a teacher-student relationship based on value co-creation.
