Abstract:As the subject of translation, the translator plays a vital role in the translation process. However, the translator has been long neglected in the development of translation theory. From the perspective of hermeneutic theory proposed by Schleiermacher, Gadamer and Steiner, subjectivity of translators is expounded and analyzed with regard to translation practice. It is found that Schleiermacher is the first scholar who noticed translator’s subjectivity which is described by Gadamer and Steiner at the macro and micro level respectively.
