Abstract:Based on the parallel corpus of two English versions of Luotuo Xiangzi, this paper focuses on translation of Chinese visual behavior verbs, and analyzes the translators’ style with regard to their translating visual behavior verbs. It is found that 1) the two translators tend to explicitly translate Chinese visual behavior verbs, especially those visual verbs of psychological cannotation. 2) But the two versions differ in degree of explicitation: Shi Xiaojing’s translation is more explicit. 3) The degree of explicitation not only reflects translators’ different understanding of the source language, but also mirrors differences in translators’ styles.
