Abstract:Taking the translation of dialogues between characters in the video game Cyberpunk 2077 as an example, this paper analyzes the features of localized transfer in the target language, and finds a tendency to use Chinese proverbs and idioms, colloquialism, homophonic puns and catchwords during English-Chinese translation of the game. In addition, it explores how translators apply different strategies in the localization process to maximize the entertainment value of the game and to promote its commercial marketing among the target players. The research findings will contribute to the localization practice of video games.
