Abstract:Guided by both theories and approaches to Comparative Literature Teaching, the teacher of An Introductory Reading of Chinese and Foreign Literary Classics has goals for moral value education to be integrated into the course. And then, the teacher carries out effective in-class teaching practices. In the first place, students are required to read and study Chinese translations of chosen foreign literary classics. Meanwhile, the teacher takes initiatives in breaking language barriers so as to help students broaden their vision and expand their scope of comparative studies in Chinese and foreign literary classics. Besides, the teacher also introduces certain non-literary texts that embody essentials of both traditional Chinese culture and progressive thoughts of the Communist Party of China, facilitating the students’ interdisciplinary interpretation of the texts and the literary classics. By practicing the aforementioned set of Comparative Literature Teaching strategies, the teacher of An Introductory Reading of Chinese and Foreign Literary Classics ensures that the students acquire both knowledge and skills, thereby achieving the course’s ultimate goal of moral value education aimed at Chinese students’ self-consciousness awakening and character formation.
