The concepts of civilization and modernization are closely intertwined. The concept of civilization serves as the spiritual core of modernization, and the process of modernization is, in fact, the transformation and upgrading from traditional to modern civilization, as well as renewal and reconstruction of civilizational concepts. From the perspective of global modernization development, the path to modernization is not limited to the Western model. The process of achieving modernization, the paths and models chosen by different countries and nations, bear the imprint of their respective civilizational types and also shape their own civilizational forms. The practice of Chinese-style modernization embodies a novel concept of civilization, which is characterized by: a holistic view of civilization that emphasizes the organic unity of the five sub-civilizations; a people-centered view of civilization; a view of civilizational transformation that integrates tradition and modernity; and a view of civilizational interaction that prioritizes mutual learning and exchange. As a product of the “two combinations”, the civilizational perspective of Chinese-style modernization with its distinct value orientation not only creates conditions and practical foundation for resolving “the debate between the ancient and the modern, the East and the West”, but also breaks through the discourse system of Western modern civilization, innovates the civilizational perspective of socialism, and thus forges a new direction for human civilization, scientifically answering the world’s question of “where human civilization is headed”.
