Abstract:The present study takes six renowned British universities as research objects according to their QS rankings, geographical distribution, and disciplinary representativeness, and examines their models of intercultural communicative competence cultivation by case study and text-analysis. It is found that British universities have two major characteristics in cultivating intercultural communicative competence: a multi-dimensional cultivation model and a systematic closed-loop cultivation path. Therefore, four implications are proposed for intercultural communicative competence cultivation in the Chinese context. The findings can provide a reference for the theoretical construction and pedagogical reform in China’s intercultural education and offer practical pathways for building a distinctive Chinese system for cultivating intercultural talents.
